( Above Photo: Antique Porters Chair - Georgian Leather Circa 1800 )

Are you looking to turn your home into a Georgian paradise? Several Georgian decorating tips can help you nail the delicate Palladian grandeur and interpret Georgian design as more contemporary.

But what are the standout features of Georgian decorating tips? If you have ever fallen in love with homes with dramatic columns, high ceilings, pastel color schemes, and delicate wallpaper, you already know the Georgian style.

Whether you’re putting up a new home or you want to restore one of your old houses, the Georgian style is worth trying. This article discusses Georgian decorating tips to get you off to a good start whenever you decide to remodel your home.

1. Georgian Architecture

Having visited classical European sites such as the Colosseum and the Pantheon, young British men brought back elements that defined architectural design in England. Therefore, they designed houses to emulate the grandeur of ancient temples, complete with arches, columns, and pediments in the entryway. Fireplaces had several pantheon elements inside the house, with columns standing imposingly in place.

2. Georgian Color Schemes

Early Georgian designers favored pea-green and burgundy shades to emulate the Baroque style, which had defined the preceding centuries. The favorite became the pastel shade in the latter part of the Georgian period.

During the Regency period, color schemes emerged, such as pastel blue, mauve, creams, and pale greys. Due to its emergence during the Regency period, pastel blues have since acquired regency blue.

It is possible to emulate Georgian colors with modern paint if you select the right shade. Alternatively, you can install a dado rail or wall paneling before painting to a dusky hue.

3. Georgian Wallpaper

One of the most useful Georgian decorating tips is the use of wallpaper. Even though it wasn’t as extensive as, during the Victorian and Edwardian periods, there was some use of wallpaper during the Georgian period.

During the Georgian period, wallpapers had elements from tapestry and marble. Most designers favored chinois Erie on wallpapers to emulate what English designers had learned from the eastern cultures.

4. Georgian Furniture

Throughout the Georgian period, furniture pieces were mainly dark-colored mainly because of the choice of wood. Furniture makers favored dark-red mahogany wood, which matched perfectly with elements like urns, vases, figurines, and plates.

One of the notable Georgian designers is Thomas Chippendale, who created furniture in the neoclassical and rococo styles. His tables and chairs had carvings and various motifs as the main decorations.

5. Georgian Cottage Style

Average Georgians had modest country houses and cottages, well-textured, cozy, and complete patterns and trinkets. Some of the interior décor elements included pale walls painted in plain white, greys, blues, and pastel greens. The fireplaces had minimal styling, while the furniture featured dark woods.

In Conclusion,

Decorating your home in the Georgian style can start in one room before moving to the rest of the house. After testing the Georgian design elements, you can escalate them to other rooms and spaces. You may need to buy Georgian furniture in some cases, but that’s not an absolute requirement.
