Of course the word demilune comes from the French for half moon and refers to the half round shape of these versatile tables. They are flexible pieces of furniture, hence making them a favourite with interior designers - they look great in a hall or entrance way, perhaps with a pair of chairs either side or in a living room to display some decorative pieces of a vivid vase of flowers. Typically - especially on the Regency style demiune console tables - the look will be one of classical refinement with tapered legs and a clean look to the design hence making them perfect for contemporary interiors.

Typically these demilune console tables will have their backs hugging the walls and as they can be quite thin, they are a natural choice for a hallway. One of our favourite pieces currently in is our Adams table which has legs finished in gold leaf and a painted top. We also have a number of Sheraton style console tables with half round shape featuring sumptuous marquetry inlay in the form of musical instruments, garlands and other intricate arabesques and motifs. As they were heavily influenced by classical architectural and the design ethos of classical antiquity, the trio of Englands favourite cabinet and furniture makers - Adams, Hepplewhite and Sheraton - all favoured the half round table as part of their repetoire.
