Piece Description

This is a charming antique terracotta garden statue, depicting a seated cherub or nymph holding a shell
The figure is beautifully modelled, with finely detailed facial features, soft curls, and delicately rendered limbs
Bought from a private house sale in London's Hampstead
The child is seated amidst flowing drapery or foliage, giving a sense of natural movement and serenity
The terracotta has developed an attractive weathered patina, with traces of lichen and moss that add to its authentic aged character — a sign of years spent outdoors in a classical garden setting
This sculpture embodies the romantic charm of 19th-century garden ornamentation, reminiscent of pieces produced by makers such as Blanchard or the Compton Pottery Offered in great shape ready for home use right away
