A large and impressive carved wooden seated Burmese Buddha figure, richly decorated with gilt and polychrome decoration The Buddha is depicted seated in the meditation pose on a lotus base, with one hand resting downward in the earth-touching (Bhumisparsha) mudra, symbolising the moment of enlightenment The figure has a calm, serene expression with downcast eyes and elongated earlobes, typical of traditional Buddhist iconography The surface retains a striking gilded and red lacquered finish, beautifully worn in places to reveal an attractive aged patina.
