You are viewing a glorious Georgian Grandfather Clock in mahogany
Made by famous clock maker Nicholas Blondel who worked out of Guernsey (the Channel Islands)
The clock is in mahogany with inlay details including rosettes and an urn motif on the main door
Clock face is flanked by the two classical Corinthian columns
Nicholas Blondel(l), who lived from around 1719 to 1776, started his career as a maker of spoons and buckles but shifted to clockmaking after a French clockmaker joined his workshop. Many of Blondel's clocks are not only numbered but also dated, as shown in this example: No. 68, dated December 23, 1746.
In fact Nicholas Blondel has just been commemorated with a blue plaque which was unveiled outside his former home in Guernsey
