Outstanding set 0f 14 Chippendale Revival mahogany dining chairs. Here we have a wonderful set of chairs made from quality mahogany. Circa 1900 The chairs are referred to as ''Chinese Chippendale'' having square front legs with blind fret work and block feet, shaped back legs and an ''h'' frame. The backs of the chairs being of a lattice form with blind fret work to the uprights and a carved and shaped cresting rail. The carvers having shaped and carved arm supports. Having recently been reupholstered in a quality fabric the chairs are presented in good condition. These chairs reflect the 18th-century fascination with Chinoiserie, a european interpretation of chinese art and design. Fretwork backs: intricate, symmetrical patterns reminiscent of chinese lattice windows. Pagoda motifs: occasionally incorporated in the crest rails or the overall form. Straight legs: often squared, with fretwork or a bamboo-like appearance. Exotic details: some pieces featured carvings inspired by dragons or oriental flora. Materials: Crafted primarily from mahogany, a wood highly favored in the Georgian era for its durability and rich color. Gilding and lacquer were sometimes added to enhance the exotic appeal. Notable works: Chippendale's Chinese chair designs were published in the gentleman and cabinet-maker''s director (1754), a groundbreaking pattern book that influenced furniture making across Europe and America.
