Piece Description
You are viewing a fantastic set of four Sevres style wall plaques made from the porcelain centre plate and surrounded by an ornate gilt wood frame. The plaques are each hand painted and depict various cherub scenes. Hopefully the photographs will go some way in conveying the intricacy of the brushstroke and the amount of time that would have gone into the painting and crafting of these beautiful pieces. Around the white panel with the cherubs is a blue porcelain frame which has some intricate gold leaf patterns and designs, also hand painted. Then of course the piece is framed by the beautiful gilt wood with leaf and vine designs. They are a gorgeous set and would add style to any interiors scheme offered as they are in perfect condition. The cherubs are of the lovely chubby variety and this set would make for a great addition to your home collection. Sèvres, porcelain made at the Manufacture Royale (now the Manufacture Nationale) de Porcelaine at Vincennes, and subsequently Sèvres, near Paris, from the 18th century to the present day. In the 18th and early 19th centuries, it was France\\\'s pre-eminent porcelain factory, whose products were influential throughout Europe. Among the first producers of high-quality soft-paste porcelain in France were the factories at St Cloud, Mennecy, and Chantilly, and it was Chantilly that provided the expertise for the launch of a new venture at Vincennes in 1738. Orry de Fulvy, brother of the French Minister of Finance, hoped (vainly, as it turned out) to recoup his gambling losses with the profits of porcelain production, and set up his factory with four disaffected workers from Chantilly. From the start, the factory was beset by financial and personnel problems, but technical developments led to an improved soft-paste body (pâte tendre, a porcellaneous substance that is not true porcelain) and the production of high-quality pieces which attracted royal and aristocratic attention. Lifelike ceramic flowers, often displayed in vases embellished with gilt-bronze mounts, were an early speciality.
