At Canonbury Antiques we carry a range of French cassolettes which are decorative urns or vases, typically made from marble and with ormolu and gilt fixtures. These pieces were a very popular decorative piece and can make any interior come alive with their classical beauty and refined elegance. Often they are of the classic amphora form named after the Roman urn form which was sometimes a drinking vessel. More often than not the pieces will be solid marble so they cannot be used as vases for floral arrangements or similar, they are a purely decorative piece. Cassolettes fell in the broader group of garnitures that included clocks and other smaller items made from gilt bronze.
