At Canonbury Antiques we carry a range of Grand Tour Antiques. The Grand Tour originates from a tradition that ran from the 17th to 19th Centuries whereby members of the British aristocracy would travel to Italy and other countries with a history of classical antiquity as part of their education and perhaps to buy antiques, decorative pieces, objets d'art, follies, collectables and anything else of interest they discovered on the journey. Of course the overiding theme is one of classical beauty - hence items like marble columns, busts, obelisks, marble statues, classical urns and vases and any other relics are all part of the Grand  Tour oeuvre. Throughout this time the British admired anything of classical - Roman or Greek - origin believing these cultures to be the font of civilisation, democracy, the arts and philosophy.
