At Canonbury Antiques we carry a range of art deco club chairs. A club chair is a type of armchair, normally finished in leather. The first club chairs first originated across the Channel in France. At this time they were first named the fauteuil confortable - the 'comfortable arm chair'. The term club chair was later originated, possibly in the UK or USA and refers to the predominance of this type of arm chair in a gentlmen's club.
Our range of club chairs are predominantly in the art deco style and we feel this look is perfectly suited to this piece of furniture. The deco design ethos is clean, minimal and symmetrical making them great for modern interiors. There's something very Mad Men about this range of chairs, you can just imagine sinking back into these chairs with a Whisky sour after a long day at the office.
Typically the frame is wooden and then the back and seats are upholstered and cushioned making them very comfortable to sit in. Many of our chairs have that streamlined modern look, very 1920s when the first airplanes started to be regularly used and hence this influenced all areas of design, including furniture, with it's futurisim and aerodynamic look. Indeed, many of our art deco club chairs have that airport executive lounge look.
Many of these art deco club chairs are available to view in our North London / Hertfordshire Canonbury Antiques showroom. Just let us know if you would like to make an appointment. We are well located in the gorgeous Hertfordshire countryside just 25 minutes north of London. In fact many of our clients like to make a day of it as there's some beautiful places to visit, the historic Roman town of St Albans is just 10 minutes away with a Roman ruins and a cathedral referred to locally as 'The Abbey'.
Alongside our range of art deco club chairs, we also carry a whole host of other, often matching, art deco furniture. Including desks, art deco chest of drawers, drinks cabinets, bedroom furniture, console tables, vintage nightstands, deco bedroom furniture and tables - many of these pieces will match these arm chairs so please let us know if you are looking for a complete deco suite. We work with lots of interior designs to find exactly the right look for your room and interior, if you are going for a 1920s themed room all the better, as you've found the right people.
