Since the dawn of the film industry in the 1920s, Hertfordshire has been the home of many big budget movies, not limited to and including some of our favourites:
To name a few of the films made right here in Hertfordshire over the year. Indeed, one of the world's most famous film directors - Stanley Kubrick - lived locally just outside of St Albans and made many of his big films here. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman lived close by when they were together and filming 'Eyes Wide Shut' with Kubric in the late 90s. At the time there was a funny story that made the news when Cruise went to the local Blockbuster (RIP) in Potters Bar and was asked for his ID when trying to rent a movie . Of course Cruise could have picked up any of many DVDs with his face on - 'Rain Man' to 'Born On The Fourth Of July' - to show who he was but was told 'rules are rules' and had to come back with his ID.
