Bronze Fountains

Nothing completes a garden or terrace like one of these large bronze fountains and we have a reange to view at our Canonbury Antiques Hertfordshire showroom. Water has been known to be the major cause of deterioration and changes in a bronze, hence, it is widely believed that protective constituents is essential for shielding the bronze fountains. It is also important to supervise various aspects of the water; some of the important things to watch out for includes: the level of dissolved mineral salt or hardness, totality of alkalinity and PH. There is a possibility that the water leaves a mineral deposition in a tan crust-like manner. This 'crust' can induce impairment or lead to it being permanent if it comes in touch with the partina or surface of the metal and needs to be dispatched sporadically. However, there are various chemical treatments that could be used to check the levels of these factors.  In addition, bronze sculptures integrated in fountains will need lots of layers of wax, because  the spraying of the water causes increased worsening of the wax at a more quicker rate.

8 Foot Tall Bronze Fountain

We can also ship these bronze fountains to anywhere in the world so plesae get in touch for a shipping quote. We have literally shipped these sort of large pieces to every corner of the planet. It was noted that during the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century, one common way of detaching corrosion from archeological bronze was either through an electrolytic or chemical method. The sculptures might have treated spots only or probably, might have been totally underwater. The electrochemical method often results in the total removal of the surface material or any patina, which advertently returns the bronze metal to its master metal surface. It is quite regrettable that this manner of conservation often yields severe results, either by making the metal full of pores, or in the long run, leaves the surface in such a way that is not appealing. Some things were  gained from this method of treatment, because till date, some people still use this method, however they take note not to make it as severe as it used to be.

Bronze fountain with classical maidens

Many of our range of large bronze fountains are classical in style. Italian renaissance or a French style of fountain that wouldn't be amiss in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles. Classical features and characters such as nymphs, maidens, cherubs, satyrs, renditions of Neptune, the Greek God of Water are very pouplar. One other treatment that is still closely related to the treatment being done nowadays, is to dry the art object, you will remove the deteriorated metals as carefully as possible, and then seal off the bronze. There are other treatments which makes use of substance; such as lemon juice, cococtions done in secret and oven cleaner.

Tiered garden fountain

In conclusion, one other way of conserving bronze in the past is not to treat it at all. This method of conserving bronze of course yields different results; some archeological bronzes pull through in good state, while others could collapse when they become too frail. If you do not see the bronze fountain you like on our website then please get in touch and we can do our best to source you one using our extensive network of contacts in the industry. At our North London / Hertfordshire antiques showroom we have a large area outside for viewing all our larger architectural pieces such as bronze fountains, marble statues, cast iron gazebos, bronze animals and any other of our large architectural salvage pieces.
