At Canonbury Antiques we carry a range of bronze sphinxes. These mythological creatures are such a great work and sculptural study. The Greek tradition saw the head of a human, lions body and bird wings and seen as treacherous. In the Egyptian tradition the sphinx is commonly shown as a man and is believed to be benevolent, hence they are great guard pieces flanking the entrance to temples (or your home). Many of these bronze sphinxes are on display in our showroom so please get in touch for an appointment. Throughout the ages sphinxes have been a favourite subject and motif, perhaps most significantly in the French Empire and art deco epochs. If you can't find the right bronze sphinx here let us know and we will do our best to source it.
