Demetre Chiparus is perhaps the most famous art deco bronze sculpturist on the 1920s. Originally from Romania, he worked out of Paris and produced some of the era defining works of sculptural art, including Friends Forver and Thais. He was famous for his chryselephantin technique (a sculpture made with gold and ivory). Many of these Chiparus art deco bronzes can be viewed in the Canonbury Antiques showroom, but please call for an appointment first. He was influence by the Ballets Russes, the discovery of Tutankhamun was also an influence as can be seen by his Egyptian dancers.
