Winston Churchill bronzes are some of the most favorite collectible items for many art enthusiasts in Britain and worldwide. That's mainly because of Churchill's central role in the Second World War, rallying Allied Forces, and inspiring British people. As one of the most brilliant orators to have existed, Churchill delivered colorful speeches that brought light to the dark 1940s.
It was after Neville Chamberlain resigned in 1940 that Churchill became Prime minister of Britain. He seemed to have come at the right time, bringing hope and strength to the British and the rest of the world. Historians have even credited him with single-handedly having led to the Allied Forces' triumph over Germany. Therefore, it is not surprising that Winston Churchill bronzes have become popular with collectors worldwide.
Whether you have listened to Winston Churchill's speeches or not, knowing how to identify a good bronze is a skill you should have. Here are some of the things to look for when identifying genuine Churchill bronzes:

Bronze has a unique sound when hit by an object. Therefore, knowing this sound can help you to distinguish a genuine bronze item from a fake one. For example, the sculpture will produce a ringing sound when struck by a wooden object and not a thud. The ringing sound usually lasts for several seconds before fading. Fake or bonded bronze, on the other hand, creates a heavy, dull sound. So, when the tin and copper mixture is correct, there will be a reverberating sound when you strike the sculpture.
Bronze sculptures may vary in color based on the ratio of copper and tin in the alloy. If it has more tin, the bronze will have a lighter shade, and if with more copper, it will have a darker shade. With time, the shine gets tarnished through the patina forming on the surface because of the copper content.
A pure bronze statue is heavy because of containing a mix of pure metals. When you try to carry the bronze, you will feel it weighing down on your hand. However, if it features a mixture of bronze powder and resin, the statue will be lighter than expected. In that case, it won't be genuine bronze.

Bronze is a very malleable material, which is why it works well in the production of sculptures. As it changes from liquid to solid, bronze tends to expand slightly. Because of its malleability, it can fill the holes in a mold to form a statue. Hence chiseling a hardened bronze won't break it.

Avoid getting duped with iron-made bronzes that some artists want to pass off as genuine. You can use a magnet to know if you are dealing with iron or natural bronze. Of course, the magnet will stick in iron. The next time you buy one of the Winston Churchill bronzes, pay attention to the attributes listed above to avoid getting duped.
