A Davenport is a small desk with a sloped writing surface which lifts up to reveal further desk storage. Often to the side of the Davenport desk are drawers or cubby holes. They are an ingenous piece of space saving furniture perfect for the letter writer or discerning individual. This desk owes its name to a Captain Davenport who was the first to commission the design, from Gillows of Lancaster, near the end of the 18th century. We have various styles of Davenport including Victorian and Regency and in walnut and mahogany. If you would like to view any of these Davenports in our Canonbury Antiques Hertfordshire showroom please get in touch for an appointment.
